Barony Castle - A Real Wedding - Nichole and Bruce

This stunning wedding is a special one, this is my big sister Nichole's wedding day. I am loving doing this real wedding feature and being able to include my beautiful family is fantastic. Nichole (Nicky) looked so stunning on her wedding day and it was an amazing wedding and weekend away, I also gained a brother from this wedding, Bruce thank you for making my sister so happy.

When did you and your husband meet?

In March 2004 when we started working together but we didn't start dating until December 2004.

How long were you together before you got engaged and how long were you engaged for?

We got engaged in November 2010 so nearly 7 years and were married 20 months later.

How did he propose?

In Central Park, New York just after we finished ice skating.

Where did you get married?

Barony Castle, Eddleston, Peebles, Scottish Borders.

How many venues did you visit before you found the one?

I'd been searching online for ages but this was the only one we visited in person as it was perfect.

Who went with you to find your wedding dress?

My Mom.

How many bridesmaids did you have?

We had 4, including Bruce's 2 beautiful daughters.

What was the theme of your wedding?

Ivory and Black chic with a Scottish twist.

What part of the planning was the most exciting for you?

No particular part, I loved every bit of it.

Did you do any DIY projects for your wedding?

Everything pretty much. I did the invitations and we both made the cake. My mother in law did a fab job with making the bridesmaids dresses and my sister in law made all of the table favours. I also did the seating name cards. My husband arranged the music throughout the day.

What was the most stressful part of the wedding planning?

Finding the right dress. I had my heart set on an Ivory and black dress which seriously reduced my options.

What entertainment did you have?

We had a piper for the wedding ceremony and a DJ for the evening.

Did everything go to plan on the big day?

If there was one thing I could change, it would be to have an extra hour getting ready. It was all a bit of a rush. Other than that it was all fine.

What would you say was nontraditional about your wedding?

I'm a traditionalist sorry. It was as traditional a civil ceremony as you could get.

If you had any advice for other brides on their big day what would it be?

Take a few deep breaths and enjoy every minute of the day. When you enter the ceremony room take a good look around at all your guests, walk slowly and try not to cry!

Where did you go on honeymoon?

Route 66 Roadtrip, Chicago to LA, USA for 3 weeks.
