How many of us would love to go back in time and tell our younger selfs a few things, maybe just to give your young self some hope or to knock some sense into your young self?
After finding an old diary of mine from 1999 - 2002, I thought I would write a few honest points of what I would tell 14-year-old Kelly.
You are always going to be small, but you are going to love it
I know you are the shortest in your class and you feel like no one sees you, but it will get better. You don't need to wear heals every second of every day. It is amazing being short, granted you will need to buy all your clothes from the petite section and won't be able to see over people's heads at concerts but you can't change it so embrace it.
You will get boobs
I know that you don't understand why all your friends have developed and you don't feel nice or grown up because you don't have boobs yet, but they will come, granted they will always be small, but you are going to love the fact they are, you don't get a bad back, you can sleep on your front, you don't have to buy bikinis in different sizes.
You will get a boyfriend
I know every page of your diary is about boys you "love" and that they don't even know you exist. You are certain you will never get a boyfriend but don't worry boyfriends are just around the corner, but you need to be careful what you wish for. You will end up engaged to a pretty great one though in the end.
Having a boyfriend, however, does not define you
You don't need a boyfriend, they are great and fun when they are there but don't become distraught and depressed when they are not. You will become more confident and independent and realise that you can survive when you are single so embrace that time and don't rush into relationships just because a man pays you some attention, be picky.
You do not need to run away and go and live in Ibiza
Life is not as bad as you think it is, talk to people more let them know you are struggling with just being a teenager. You will still have never been to Ibiza (sorry I know that was the only place you seemed to ever want to go) but you will travel to some amazing places and realise you don't need to run away from your problems.
You do have friends and are still friends with the important ones
Just remember that girls can be bitchy!! It is not a reflection on you when they are horrible to you and you fall out and it is not a reflection on them when you take out your issues out on them for no reason and become the bitch. You will carry your true friends through with you and you will reminisce about fun times and they will be your rock through hard times. (You and Emma will still live in a dream world)
Enjoy not having a job or bills
This is such a boring old person thing to say but you live in a great house with amazing parents so embrace that, maybe don't be in such a rush to move out.
Don't worry what people think of you
Do things that you like not just what the crowd is doing. Don't worry about what people think of you or get upset when someone doesn't like you, you don't like everyone so you can't expect everyone to like you.
You will lose your baby fat
Don't worry those chubby cheeks with soon be gone. 15 years later you will be trying to get rid of adult fat but you had many years being nice a slim lol. You will also discover eyebrow waxing which is a good thing.
You will pass your exams
Have more faith in your abilities you are very clever so stop being so hard on yourself. You will go to uni and meet some amazing people and experience things that shape who you are today. You won't actually finish uni so maybe spend a little more time in lectures then in the pub, #justsaying.
You are lucky with the way your life has turned out so far and you don't have any regrets but some words of wisdom
Save your money
You are lucky with your life but maybe save a little money instead of thinking credit cards are free money (they actually want that money back at some point)
Maybe follow through with 1 crazy plan
It might have been good if you and Emma had backpacked around Canada or spend the summer in Ibiza. (there is still time Emma, lol)
Tequila Is not your friend
This one does not need an explanation.
Finally, Don't worry, as you still won't have life figured out when you are 30 and that is fine.
Growing up is so hard and being a teenager can totally suck at times but it's a phase in your life that quickly passes so enjoy it while it lasts if you are still a teenager.
Thank you for reading this and I hope you enjoyed it. What would you say to your 14-year-old self? let me know in the comments below.
